Beard Papa's

When it comes snack cravings.. E really love this cream puff, Beard Papa's.. I think Beard Papa 's is the most delicate cream puff (or simply we called it kue sus) I found in Jakarta..

One of their outlet in EX.. At Beard Papa's, you have a choice of cream filling like chocolate, vanilla, cappucino, and green tea flavors.. Our fave is the green tea one, but it's so difficult to get it.. The green tea flavor is not always available everyday..

Like this time E still can't get the green tea one, so he goes for the Cappuccino Cream Puff (11K), a crispy puff pastry filled with a generous cappuccino cream filling.. The puff pastry has a consistent and most appealing filling that is pumped into it and freshly prepared as you order..

The puff pastry was light and airy with delightfully crispy crackly crust, the cappuccino cream filling was delicate flavored.. It was a bit messy to eat but sooo good.. Mmm..

And this is one of the Beard Papa's stations in Hong Kong.. It's all about freshness, they bakes cream puffs and fills it immediately..

Looks in Hong Kong they have many varies menu much different with their menu in Jakarta, looks so tempting and tastes delicate..

Surely, we choosed the Choux a La Creme - Original with Green Tea filling (HKD 12).. It always available everyday there.. Looks the oozed green tea cream filling, it was excellent and it tasted wonderfully smooth, delicate, and not too sweet.. Love it..

Really this is the most delicate cream puff I ever eat.. Nyummm..

Hui Lau Shan

Back to more photos of Hong Kong foods.. I'm still not done yet, but this will be the final post on our Hong Kong trip.. And here's the well-known healthy dessert in Hong Kong, Hui Lau Shan.. Hui Lau Shan is one of Hong Kong best dessert restaurant I ever tasted and they're familiar with their fresh fruit drinks and mango desserts out there..

This is one of their stall in Mongkok near to our hotel.. They have many stalls spread all over Hong Kong..

Soo many dessert variations to choose, but their specialty is being anything with mango.. And other variations made from papayas, watermelon, honeydew, strawberry, and pineapples.. They also have some traditional Chinese desserts and savory snacks..

Just a simple, clean, and colorful stall..

I really luv this Hui Lau Shan, besides a lot of variation menu, they also maintain the freshness and delicacy of mango in every dish.. So no wonder almost everyday in Hong Kong we bought it.. Before I show you what we had there, I want to apologize that I can't remember the name of it and I also forgot about the price hehe, but I'm quite sure that the price is still affordable..

Even though I don't remember its name, but I still remember what's in it hehe.. E had a Honeydew with Aloe Vera Jelly (right one) and I had Pineapple with Aloe Vera and Sago Pearls (left one)..

The other day, I had this Mango with Strawberry and Aloe Vera.. It was a subtle hint of mango without being overly sweet..

And the last day, I had Strawberry and Mango with Glutinous Ball and Mango Ice Cream.. I asked them to separate the ice cream.. Mango puree blended with strawberry puree and topped with mango cubes, strawberry cubes, and glutinous balls.. Truly a wonderful combination, flavorful, and it's simply ingenious..

The mango ice cream which came with it was truly great, made from frozen mango puree and it was pure mango..

So, when you are planning to visit Hong Kong, don't forget to try Hui Lau Shan, really a great stop for healthy desserts.. I hope they'll have branches here in Jakarta someday hehe..

Odeon Taiwanese Cafe

Yeaa, I know it's very late for this post but here you go.. This was our first dinner in Hong Kong..

We were wandering in Causeway Bay area and had no clue where to dine, so we just randomly picked this Odeon Taiwanese Cafe.. E had eaten here several times when he was in Hong Kong..

Simply, clean, and spacious dining area..

For the drinks..

E ordered this Sweet Pumpkin Juice (HKD 23/IDR 30K), quite refreshing..

And Hot Chrysanthemum Tea (HKD 35/IDR 45.5K), the tea is a mixture of chrysanthemums and Chinese wolfberries.. The tea had a light and pleasant fragrance..

I didn't have anything fancy here, but something that could warmth my hungry belly.. I had a Minced Pork Noodle Soup (HKD 38/IDR 49.5K), Taiwanese noodle in soup topped with minced pork.. The noodle was not too bad, not the usual taste that you get though..

The noodle was not springy but it has a chewy texture, quite nice and pipping hot..

And E ordered this Beef Bamboo Rice (HKD 45/IDR 58.5K), steamed rice topped with sauteed beef served in bamboo tube.. The beef was tender and well marinated..

All in all, it was quite enjoyable eventhough we thought it's not really cheap eat in Hong Kong

Ocean Empire

Back to more photos of Hong Kong, I’m still not done yet! When we in Hong Kong, surely we won't miss one of Hong Kong's popular and local delicacies, congee.. Lighter than rice make the congee easier to stomach, such a humble dish.. Here's one of famous eatery for local taste congee, Ocean Empire..

The shop is decorated in simple way, tidy, and clean.. It may not be easy to get the seat during peak hours..

She was making a rice rolls, and they maintain the hygiene and cleanness in the kitchen.. That's really good..

So far, in Jakarta we only familiar with a savory kinds of congee, but this local eatery serves not only the savory one but there some kinds of sweet congee, they put pumpkin and sweet corn on it.. I saw many local people loved this dish, but we still opted the savory one. They cook congees with many different choices healthy and fresh ingredients..

E ordered this Sotong/Cuttlefish Congee, they put a lot sotong/cuttlefish on it.. Its tasted really good, and E loved it, he said he hasn't found out kind of congee in Jakarta so far..

And I choose this Fish Congee, looked nothing different with the cuttlefish congee yaa hehe..

But dig it you'll find out generous fresh fish slices.. The porridge was smooth and tasty..

This was so crispy... Fried Cruller/Chinese Doughnut, always have a fried cruller to dip into the congee.. Its really nice, crunchy but soft on the inside, really goes well with the congee..

We also ordered this Rice Rolls with Chinese Doughnut, we drizzled it with soy sauce.. The rice rolls was smooth, thin, and as always the Chinese Doughnut was crispy..

Not only congees, they also famous with their local Cantonese snacks, deep fried Chinese doughnut/crullers, twisted doughnut, fried sesame ball, and ricesheet roll/chee zhong fun..

Ocean Empire provides the good traditional Cantonese dishes at the least price.. I'm always come here when I'm in Hong Kong, they really have a Cantonese local taste.. This eatery also quite familiar to Indonesian tourist, you'll find many Indonesian tourist eat here..

Maxim's Palace

I still have more Hong Kong foods.. Let's we continue.. Enjoying a dim sum in Hong Kong is a quintessential food experience that you can't miss it.. From the information that I got, Maxim's Palace dim sum is the great place to have a authentic dim sum.. So, we headed to City Hall to try it..

The restaurant is large with a huge chandeliers and views of the harbour..

The interesting thing here is the way they serve the foods instead of ordering on a menu, they have some waiters walk past with trolleys full of dim sum and you choose what you want.. I think it's so much easier to have trolleys roll by and all you have to do is just point and eat, effective rite? So you won't get the wrong dim sum..

The place is massive and packed..

So we will start with some traditional dim sum choices, and also locals' favorites..

Cha Siu Bao - Barbecued Pork Bun, soft and fluffy steam bun with BBQ pork filling..

Such a generous filling..

Siew Mai - Pork Dumpling, minced pork and prawn wrapped in wantan skin.. Really a delicate siew mai..

Ha Kao - Steam Shrimp Dumpling, steamed fresh prawn in supper thin and translucent wrapper..

Prawn Chee Cheong Fun - Prawn in Rice Noodle Roll, prawn wrapped in rice noodle paper drizzled with some soy sauce like sauce on the dish.. The rice noodle paper was soft, the prawn was springy freshness, and the sauce making it slightly salty and sweet.. Delicious..

Fried Prawn Dumpling, deep fried dumpling with juicy and fresh prawn filling.. It was crispy on the outside, nice and full of filling on the inside..

Here comes the Egg Tarts, flaky based pastry with sweet egg custard filling.. It was quite superb not too sweet, creamy, and rich in taste..

Haha we just realized almost all dim sum we ordered had a prawn on it.. But really the prawn was so fresh and springy.. So nice..

The dim sum here is delicate and also reasonable in price (sorry I forgot the exact price).. The place is always packed, so it's better to come early so you won't run out of your fave dim sum.. It was too bad for me, I was run out of my fave one, BBQ Pork Bolo Bun huhu.. Maxim's Palace is really a good choice to have an authentic Hong Kong dim sum, they also have many varieties of it.. Ok stay tune for more on Hong Kong foods next time yaa..

Toi Hokkaido Rice Pizza

Ok as my promise, here is another food journey in Hong Kong, Toi Hokkaido Rice Pizza.. Yup rice pizza, something new that we can't find out in Jakarta.. We are familiar with rice burger here, but there's none rice pizza so far.. The Italian has a dough based pizza, but the Japanese has a rice based pizza.. And now by combining the western and eastern cuisine really produces a unique and fabulous dish..

They opened two branches in Causeway Bay area, and this one is nearer to Excelsior Hotel..

The replicas of the food at the glass panel is very tantalizing and interesing.. Its like the replicas we found in Pasta de Waraku here..

We seated in second floor..

The place is neat and quite small..

We were promptly seated at this gorgeous little spot by the window overlooking the crowd in Causeway Bay area..

The menu not only rice pizza, but there also pasta, okonomiyaki, and others Japanese dish..

And also some Japanese desserts..

Hmm rice pizza? Seems an interesting concept yaa, let's we try..

Ok to start our lunch we ordered this yummy Curry Japanese Croquette (HKD 28.8/IDR 37.5K), deep fried curry flavor mashed potato..

It was perfectly crisp on the outside, yet flavorful and smooth on the inside..

And for the rice pizza, we ordered Toi Special Rice Pizza - regular size (HKD 75.8/IDR 98.5K).. It's a rice based pizza covered with tomato sauce and topped with mushroom, bacon, beef, cheese, lots of onion, and green pepper..

Not bad, but not good either.. The rice pizza was just average, the rice couldn't stick in whole piece and not tasty enough I think their need more cheese and tomato sauce on it.. I still prefer to dough based pizza hehe.. But it's nice to try to get rid of our curiosity..
